Memorial Day Weekend ~ May 25, 2013 part 3

We left Mr Dooley’s and headed off for Leicester. Finding Friend Cemetery was a personal quest for the both of us. Not only have we heard so many stories about the place but we also had come to Leicester looking for the cemetery in April of 2012. We were running out of light, time and the GPS had all ready run out of power. We were in the right area; just couldn’t find the cemetery. It didn’t help that while we rode back and forth on Mulberry and Mannville Streets; we were being shadowed by a guy in a white sedan (probably lost as we were or keeping track of the fools cruising up and down a road near an airport). It was enough to have us calling it quits and driving off to find a hotel.

Not this time though! We had plenty of daylight and the Tom Tom was all charged up. The only problem it was raining heavily. This was no deterrent and we walked up the dirt road to the cemetery.  There are many rumors about hauntings, murders, satanic worship and an eighth gate to hell. I can’t say that I have found anything to indicate that this is anything other than a quaint little cemetery.

Proof that I lack the imagination to see this as a gateway to Satan...

Memorial Day Weekend ~ May 25, 2013

We have a long day ahead of us. Many places to go and some special people to see. Our first stop is at Mount Auburn Cemetery. The morning was wet and cool but we have wanted to visit this place for quite awhile.

The cemetery truly is beautifully landscaped and there are so many cool stones and statues. Unfortunately our time was limited and we could only hit a few of the sites.

The Mary Baker Eddy Monument is impressive and a stand out for me (I have never felt like arguing with a memorials inscription quite like this).

Another stand out is the Bigelow Chapel:

Yup it is tall.

and across the road facing the chapel is a sphinx.

Not exactly Cairo.

Unfortunately we had scheduled plans for the rest of the day but I hope we get a chance to spend a full day exploring this awesome cemetery.
